Objective lens microscopefunction

The EPO is rapidly moving towards cloud and cloud-native technologies. A number of initiatives are on-going, to move Windows applications to the Cloud and even more are planned to materialise during the lifetime of the Operational Services Framework. Currently the core Windows Application Server infrastructure is still largely maintained on-premise or in a hybrid-cloud set-up, but this situation is evolving rapidly as more applications move to an external cloud and the on-premise infrastructure is reduced correspondingly. It is foreseen that the full stack of Windows Application Servers will be migrated to the data centre in Luxemburg by the end of 2021. The target situation however is for these to run in an external cloud wherever suitable. Although the EPO continues to maintain legacy bespoke applications for its core business, the provisioning of ‘Commercial off the Shelf ‘(COTS), applications is now becoming a standard.
