Our mantra is nothing that we sell has not either been thoroughly field tested by us and most likely forms a part of our regular kit and this wee item is Scott’s goto. The shock of first learning that he had presbyopia from his GP raised a whole load of worrying questions: Who had he caught it off? How was he going to tell his wife? What was the treatment? His wife had already become suspicious when he ordered a well-done steak in a fish restaurant and his kids thought it odd that he now reads books upside-down.

This magnifying card works because of the genius of a French physicist, Jean Fresnel, and it has been called “the invention that saved a million ships” because these are the main type of lenses used in lighthouses to beam light for miles across the ocean. When used in reverse, as in held away from an object, it acts like any other magnifying glass, perfect for seeing small details on maps, flora, and fauna you discover on your jaunts and for Scott, reading menus.
