Hi @bluesman49 . Is the grating pattern a separate image? I’m not sure if this is what you want, but if you just want an overlaid image, you can try adding this grating pattern image onto your binary image.(Image>Overlay>Add Image). On the other hand, you can also overlay a grid on your binary image (Analyze>Tools>Grid).

Thanks for responding. Let me explain in more detail what I’m trying to do. I acquire an image of a particle of arbitrary shape using a monochrome camera. I then create a binary mask of the image, a black background with the cell area completely white. I want to spatially modulate the image, such that the completely white area is a grating alternating between 1 (white) and 0 (black). I tried using the overlay method you suggested but doesn’t seem to do the job.

I am trying to find the best way to superimpose a grating pattern onto an image. More specifically, I am imaging single particles and I create a binary representation by using a dual threshold technique. I want to then spatially modulate the binary image with a grating pattern that is arbitrarily oriented.
However, if you plan to do something else with the resulting image, here’s a note from Herbie Gluender: “Spatial modulation means multiplication. If the grating is not binary-valued, e.g. if it is a sinusoidal grating, this means that the resulting modulated image is no longer binary-valued”.
