What specific things should I look for in order to find a very bright white LED? I am very unfamiliar with the terminology being used in some of these datasheets, and there are hundreds of thousands of LED's available to research, so going through them one-by-one until I find something I like wont work!

I am looking for safe-voltage (so I guess 24v or less correct?) through-hole LED's to use for lighting some colored plastic pilot-light covers I have kicking around! So the light should be white in color, though I see there are various kinds of "white" and "warmths" which is a bit confusing.
