Ad esempio su una fotocamera full frame l’angolo di campo di un obiettivo 28 mm è 75°, mentre su una fotocamera APS-C con lo stesso obiettivo si avrebbe un angolo di campo di 54°, quindi inferiore.

Angolo di campo e lunghezza focale sono strettamente legati tra loro. Minore è la lunghezza focale e maggiore è l’angolo di campo. Gli obiettivi grandangolari hanno infatti un ampio angolo di campo (quindi permettono di inquadrare una zona più ampia di scena), mentre i teleobiettivi hanno un angolo di campo più ristretto (quindi consentono di riprendere una parte minore della scena inquadrata).

Gli obiettivi fotografici si identificano in base alla loro lunghezza focale. Le ottiche fisse hanno un’unica lunghezza focale (esempio obiettivo a focale fissa 28 mm), mentre gli zoom hanno una lunghezza focale variabile (esempio lo zoom 24-70 mm permette di scattare a varie lunghezze focali tra 24mm e 70mm).
