Learn about the spoilage challenges and operational bottlenecks that ascospores can pose to your quality program if detection is delayed, or worse – not detected at all. Subject matter experts will cover the basics of these bugs and real-world impacts of insufficient quality methods to help you beat the heat … resistant mold.
Diffuse lighting is typically provided via a dome which scatters light internally to created a diffused “cloudy day” effect. The softer light reduces the occurrence of harsh lines and shadows, but requires that the light source be close and large for the best results.

Bar Lights, also called Linear Array Lights, offer both bright field and dark field illumination, depending on angle the light array is directed with respect to the object of interest. Advanced Illumination’s bar lights come in a variety of lengths, widths, and wavelengths, and with creative placement, the bar lights can useful for large area illumination, such as when used in opposing pairs or in a picture frame mounting orientation.
Bright Field Lights provide illumination directly onto an object, at angles above 45 degrees from horizontal, creating distinct shadows. This type of lighting is effective when your use requires high degrees of contrast, but may create unwanted reflections when directed at shiny or reflective materials because of the high angle of incidence. Working distances can be short to very long.
As specialists in lighting, Advanced Illumination knows that every project has specific needs, and their model allows you to choose exactly what features and sizes you need from the lighting solution you order. Their built-to-order(BTO) model provides for very short lead times and allows a product to be configured from a large set of predetermined parameters, with hundreds of thousands of BTO combinations available. If you still can’t find what you need, we will work with you and the team at Advanced Illumination to design a custom product that is engineered to fit your exact machine vision needs.

Line lighting, while linear, serves a different purpose than linear array(bar) lighting. Line lights features a secondary lens to focus the light into a narrow beam, typically for short to intermediate working distances, and are mostly used in conjunction with line scan cameras.

High-brightness LED lights designer and manufacturer Smart Vision Lights recently revealed the RHI200-DO Lightgistics series light. The new product features 64 LEDs in a 205 mm by 205 mm ring light for “intense uniform lighting at long working distances” of up to 2,000 mm, the company says. It’s equipped with Hidden Strobe technology and delivers all the advantage of strobing without the disturbance or disorientation often linked to LED strobe lights, it notes. The Hidden Strobe technology allows LEDs to automatically trigger thousands of times per second, generating the appearance of uninterrupted illumination. The innovative technology maximizes the abilities of machine vision systems while also safeguarding employees from the disorienting effects associated with flashing lights, according to the company. “Today’s high-speed machine vision systems use LEDs that frequently pulse to capture images of rapidly moving objects, but this strobing effect can generate unpleasant and potentially hazardous work environment conditions,” said Steve Kinney, director of training, compliance and technical solutions, in a statement. “The RHI200-DO minimizes these drawbacks by utilizing Hidden Strobe technology, which enables high-speed machine vision systems to leverage the power of strobed LEDs without inadvertently creating safety risks or requiring shielding.”

Spot lights are general purpose illuminators, serving different functions depending on the angle of incidence and can have a range of effects based on intensity, size, and beam spread. Small spot lights are ideal for tight spaces.

Dark Field Lights provide illumination that is projected at a shallow angle to the imaging surface, 45 degrees or less, which is ideal for edge or defect detection. Dark field illuminators can be dedicated ring lights, or any general bar or spot light oriented at low angles of incidence, depending on defect orientation. Very low angle dark field ring lights must be deployed at close working distances to be effective.
Below you’ll find the types of products that Advanced Illumination has to offer. Contact us to discuss your project requirements.
Advanced Illumination offers backlights in a range of styles and a range of color wavelengths or white lighting available.
Advanced Illumination offers the typical dome shaped diffuse lighting solutions, but also offers models that are linear, and flat domes, which can provide an adequate “Cloudy Day” lighting effect at a larger range of working distances than domes. All diffuse lighting solutions are available in a range of wavelengths.
Coaxial Lights provide diffused illumination, generated from an internal source. The light is then deflected downward onto the imaging plane via a 50% beamsplitter, which also allows light from the object to be collected by the camera above. Coaxial lighting is deal for imaging highly reflective objects or for when shadows obsure the area of inspection. The goal of coaxial illumination is to apply a sheet of light to the object from above and collect the results of how the light behaves, whether reflected, scattered or absorbed.

Backlighting provides an area of uniform illumination, from behind the object of interest, primarily used to create a part silhouette with definite contrast between dark and light. Backlighting is most useful for edge detection, part location/orientation or presence/absence, hole detection and object gauging.
