I know this is extremely “exact” and plants don’t need exactly X amount of light every single day and can tolerate some differences, but it’s so hard to know if the plant is struggling because lack of light or some other environment issue or if it’s just sick.

I’ve always been confused on how much/or how little light plants actually need. People always throw out these general and broad terms of “they need filtered light, they need early morning sun, they need afternoon sun, they need blah blah blah”. None of those terms mean shitall. I’ve yet to figure out a good way to measure and determine how much light a typical plant needs. Is there some measuring system where you have some type of chart that says.

And then have typical “units of light” output from say watts of florescent light, led light, the sun in florida between 11AM and 3PM in FL in august, 11AM and 3PM in canada in august, 8AM and 11AM in january in locations etc. Typical amount of “units” of light in a north facing window in the Idaho in May between 10AM and 6PM, light units in a south east facing window behind a sheer curtain in Texas in June. You get the point.
