Both Plexiglas® (most commonly spelt Plexiglass) and Perspex® are brand names of Acrylic sheet. Röhm GmbH, based in Germany, are the manufacturers of Plexiglas® whereas Perspex® is manufactured in the UK by Perspex International Limited. Both manufacturers supply a wide range of colours and thicknesses. Whilst the brand names Plexiglas® and Perspex® are different, ultimately the acrylic sheet that they manufacture is the same albeit each manufacturer might tweek the formulation to increase or enhance UV-resistance, light transmission or colour.

Unlike standard opal acrylic sheet, LED opal light diffusing sheet diffuses light evenly throughout the material without suffering from hot spots caused by individual LED lights.

LED opal acrylic sheet offers creative flexibility by being able to be lit with different colour LED lighting. Coloured light is transmitted brightly and diffused evenly.

LED lighting technology is far more efficient than more traditional lighting systems. Using less energy at very low voltage, LEDs create a safe system with little maintenance and long life. All of which produce a more environmentally conscious choice for lit signage systems.

LED Light diffusing opal acrylic sheet is produced specifically for the use of LED lighting systems. Light is diffused evenly throughout the sheet unlike standard opal acrylic sheet that can suffer from hotspots of light caused by individual diodes.

When deciding whether Cast Acrylic or Extruded Acrylic is best for your project it’s worth considering the specific application and desired finish you hope to achieve. The table below provides some examples of the most suitable type of acrylic sheet to use for specific applications.
