Most of the DLC application are made with either PEPVD  (Plasma Enhanced Physical Vacuum Deposition) or PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vacuum Deposition). Il termine «avanguardia» 1 , era già riferito alla letteratura verso la metà del secolo scorso, ma Baudelaire in Mon cœur mis à nu, nell’elencarlo tra le metafore militari, ne precisa un uso che indica conformismo, uniformità, cioè tutto l’opposto di quello che sarà il suo significato nel XX secolo a partire dal Futurismo. Precisiamo questo significato. Molti hanno provato a darne una definizione globale comune a tutti i movimenti. Talvolta però sono emersi solo i tratti salienti, sia pure approfonditi, a discapito forse di una visione più completa e lucida del contenuto, come nel lavoro, pur meritorio, di Giorgio Bàrberi Squarotti. L’autore ha saputo ben convertire in un’analisi matura il suo punto di vista, mettendo in evidenza soprattutto il rapporto artista d’avanguardia/società e la risposta anarchica che ne deriva 2 . Spesso si è trattato di rinnovare, di precisare meglio i tentativi precedenti, come hanno fatto Michel Décaudin e Mario Verdone3 , e non a caso nel contesto di pubblicazioni da me promosse 4 . Il primo, dopo essersi soffermato su movimenti e autori che possono essere confusi con l’avanguardia come il Naturismo di Saint-Georges de Bouhélier, l’Unanimismo di Jules Romains, l’Orfismo di Apollinaire, accoglie l’ipotesi avanzata da Jean Weisgerber a nome della sua équipe di Bruxelles (ma occorre addirittura un’équipe solo per ipotizzare la definizione?), cioè che per avanguardia si deve intendere una serie di movimenti caratteristici del XX secolo raggruppanti un numero limitato di artisti e scrittori i quali esprimono le loro idee attraverso manifesti, programmi e riviste e si distinguono per un antagonismo radicale contro l’ordine stabilito. 5 Il secondo, Mario Verdone, inizia il suo discorso anticipando attraverso una «doppia definizione» di Pierre Albert-Birot («Chercher est vivre et trouver est mourir») la sua definizione che si basa – non esclusivamente, ma prevalentemente – su puntuali e mai troppo ripetuti esempi nei quali si nota la mancanza di preoccupazione, da parte dell’avanguardia, del risultato estetico 6 . Penso che lo studioso dia per scontata la compenetrazione tra arte e letteratura (non è evidente nel suo scritto), invece è molto chiaro quando afferma l’assenza di una lucidità programmatica. Qui non mi trovo d’accordo: non dimentichiamo che molto nasce dalla ragionata, ripeto ragionata sregolatezza promossa da Rimbaud; oppure quando trova nell’avanguardia il culto dell’infanzia 7 (Picabia definiva i bambini piccoli mostri 8 ). Verdone ha però il merito di saper giungere fino agli ultimi fermenti sollecitando una riflessione più ampia. Riporto

Plasma Enhanced technology is used instead of normal CVD/PVD method as it’s working temperature is much lower (around 250° vs 600-900°C) which protects temperature sensitive substrates like Germanium. The growth rate of the coating layer is constant, it is then easy to monitor layer thickness by controlling the time of reaction. Typical thickness of DLC coating is 1.2µm, but may vary according to the substrate material.

DLC stands for Diamond Like Carbon, it is a black/ dark grey thin layer of amorphous carbon that can be coated on different surfaces. DLC coatings can be used in different industries, but we will focus on DLC coatings for optical components.

When dealing with infrared optics, especially in defense industry one cannot avoid hearing about DLC coatings. But what are they ? Why are they used ?

The use of vacuum chamber creates a clean environment and then reduce the risk of impurities in the coating layer.  The plasma is created by ionizing a gas pumped in the chamber. For DLC coating the gas is either methane (CH4) or acetylene (C2H2) both very rich in carbon atoms. Du to the process, complex shapes can be coated with very good homogeneity, DLC coating is not limited to flat surfaces.

NOTA Dalle definizioni di Inismo sopra riportate confrontate con le definizioni d’avanguardia, si potrebbe dire che l’Inismo rappresenta pure il superamento dell’avanguardia oppure che è “all’avanguardia dell’avanguardia”. L’anno di fondazione del movimento, il 1980, segna pure l’inizio dell’epoca postideologica che si protrae fino ai nostri giorni. Unica eccezione, sola “avanguardia”, l’Inismo, con le sue idee e teorie. L’Inismo, movimento sempre da riscoprire, pur essendo ormai da tempo entrato nella storia dell’arte e della letteratura, non è tuttavia così conosciuto come qualcuno sostiene (meglio dire allora: «non è conosciuto come meriterebbe»). A causa forse dell’indifferenza dei suoi rappresentanti per il successo ? Sì, ma solo in parte per una sorte che probabilmente sarà paragonabile a quella dell’Impressionismo entrato nella sensibilità degli uomini dopo cento anni.
