NFPA also requires signs that mark the main exterior doors that may not be otherwise identified as possible emergency exits. The markings need to be visible from any direction of the exit access and need to be illuminated. The illumination of the exit markings should be confirmed with a visual inspection every thirty days. These lights should be included with the emergency light units. Local state or municipal laws may also have regulations, and industrial emergency codes that apply to exits markings and building inspection codes may also have requirements for emergency lighting. Be sure to check your state and municipal requirements.

In a computer-based method, the units do not need to be visually inspected every thirty days. The computer will notify you of an issue as it occurs. In addition to the monthly inspections, an annual test of the emergency lighting system is also required by NFPA. You should keep records of your monthly inspections. This is best done by using an emergency lighting inspection form.

For the self-test inspection, the units can use indicator lights that notify you if an emergency light is not working properly. The presence of an indicator light should be checked every thirty days.

I have been using a pE-4000 for optogenetic experiments using in vitro slices for just over a year now. The pE-4000 has been fantastic for my needs: the ability to simultaneously use multiple wavelengths of light has allowed me to carry out experiments using two different opsins to study how external inputs converge on hippocampal interneurons. I’m currently setting up my own research group at the University of Exeter, and all of my patch-clamp rigs will have a pE-4000 on them, as they are such versatile devices for optogenetic experiments.

For manufacturers who wish to gain a competitive advantage through bright, stable and controllable illumination, CoolLED’s world-renowned LED technology is available in customised configurations.

The customer service at CoolLED is phenomenal! Justyna was amazing with product feedback. I have NO hesitation recommending coolLED for their products and service. Simply fantastic!

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) also has requirements relative to emergency lighting. “Each exit route must be adequately lighted so that employees can see along the exit route, each exit must be clearly visible and marked by a sign reading “Exit,” per OSHA guidelines. Exit signs must also be illuminated and be distinctive in color in plainly legible letters

Power outages are inevitable. When at home, the solution to a sudden power outage is often a stash of emergency flashlights or candles or maybe a small generator. Commercial power outages are a different story and present their own challenges. Commercial properties have safety regulations, which include emergency lighting requirements. These NFPA requirements are designed to ensure that occupants of commercial properties can safely navigate to exits. The professionals at APFE Corporation can help ensure your property complies with these regulations and is safely designed for emergency lighting plans.

We needed an easy to install, triggerable, intensity-modulated light source. An LED is by far the easiest and cheapest solution. Furthermore, small latencies between triggered light pulses are crucial for the analysis of the kinetics of measurements. We used the CoolLED pE-300ultra, which meets these requirements. Another great advantage of this product lies in its versatility for use in upcoming experiments covering different wavelengths. Its flexibility allows the performance of very complex experimental protocols.

The Cy5 (635 nm) LED in the pE-400 Series is a game changer and they also offer massively improved YFP excitation too. They are fantastic products!

Emergency lighting systems can be installed in a few ways. One is to set up the building with an emergency generator. In this scenario, an automatic transfer switch would provide backup power in the event of a power outage. Another method is to have separate emergency light units with already charged batteries that work independently from the building’s main power supply. NFPA requires lighting to stairs, hallways, passageways, aisles, and corridors that lead to an exit.

My team told me that the pE-800fura is a very good light source – powerful and suitable for multi-purpose applications. The same for our academic collaborators who clearly saw the difference compared to their aging light source.

The National Fire Protection Association was born out of necessity with the invention of electricity and fire suppression sprinklers. As technology continued to advance, so too did the legal requirements to install these systems. What began with a plumbing solution to fire suppressants has evolved into electrical and computer-based technology in potentially dangerous situations.

Did you know that LED illumination systems help laboratories reduce their carbon footprint, protecting laboratory staff along the way?

The pE-300white has been a great asset for a core facility. It has meant less time spent changing bulbs (so less downtime to the user and more productive time for ourselves) and no longer worrying about users turning the light source on and off throughout the day as multiple users come and go.  The controllable intensity has also proved highly popular with users who are now able to set the minimum light level required to scan their samples and minimise the risk of phototoxic damage and bleaching to their specimens

Overall, I found it very easy to install and operate. The intensity of illumination is great and I like that it is highly adjustable.

Toxic mercury-based microscope illuminators are bad news for the environment, draw a lot of power and have a short lifetime.

All our lab members have been very glad that the microscope representative recommended CoolLED pE-300white to us. It is really cool! With this new and award-winning technology, we got rid of the big and heavy fluorescence power supply box and camera controller, and will never worry about the life time of a fluorescence lamp again, because we can use the pE-300white almost forever. Now we can turn the fluorescence on or off instantly and adjust the intensity precisely and conveniently with no shutters required. In addition, the illumination is clean, bright and stable across the spectrum, and it is not just safer for us but also energy-efficient for our environment. We love it! Thank you, CoolLED!

CoolLED designs and manufactures cutting edge LED Illumination Systems for researchers and clinicians using the latest LED technology.

We chose the CoolLED light source with our live cell imaging system because we need a fluorescence light source that is efficient, easy to use and has a very bright and robust signal for fluorescence – but is also incredibly gentle on cell samples. Our system is designed around a lack of phototoxicity, so when using fluorescence with holotomography, we really need the ideal excitation that keeps cells happy, but shows exactly what is labelled.

The routine inspection of your emergency lighting system will help safeguard your property’s occupants and comply with national and local safety codes. Emergency lighting inspection requirements include monthly inspections to meet the standards of NFPA Life Safety Code 101. The testing for the lighting system inspection can be either manual, self-tested, or computer tested. For the manual review, you should manually test the emergency lights for thirty seconds every month to ensure they are operational. This is usually done by using the manufacturer button, which manually disconnects the main power supply.

The NFPA provides emergency exit light inspection requirements for businesses to ensure the safety of their commercial building’s occupants. Inspecting emergency lighting systems’ operational efficacy keeps your property, employees, and customers safe when your power unexpectedly goes out by providing clear lighted pathways to emergency exits. The emergency lighting system and proper inspection can assure your insurance company of your business’ commitment to safety. Emergency lighting systems are also often required by law or in accordance with building codes, which means your emergency lights’ operational status is vital for safety and compliance reasons.

CoolLED light sources are user-friendly, offering versatile control options and delivering bright illumination across a broad spectrum of wavelengths.

There is no warm up/cool down which makes things easier for all users. I look forward to reduced maintenance with the long lifespan of the LEDs and no bulb replacements.  No complaints really! I would definitely recommend the system to others as superior to standard mercury lamp illumination.
