The building uses many green technologies that include solar power generation (275 MWh/year) and automated daylight systems. The building’s footprint is centered on a courtyard space that fosters community among its occupants but also maximizes natural light through the use of large, triple element windows. Interior light sources include fluorescents and individual LED task lighting. Automated occupant sensors turn off lights and shutdown computers and monitors when spaces are not occupied by workers. Overall there are some 15,000 monitoring and control points throughout the building and engineers can remotely control the many hundreds of sub systems like blinds, plug loads and electric charging stations.

Three natural finish Arcade Series Full Shield 20” Compact Fluorescent fixtures grace the main entrance to the building. They wonderfully mimic the vertical pattern of raw Red Cedar exterior wood paneling in both shape and color and provide an unmistakable point of entry. These luminaires are accompanied by a half dozen Glow Star path lights.

We work closely with our vendors to provide high-quality LED lighting for machine vision applications. Visit our PRODUCTS section to discover an LED lighting solution for your vision application and choose "CONFIGURE THIS LIGHT" to customize a light to meet your needs.

Heating and cooling is digitally controlled with warning systems that indicate if natural, exterior airflow should be utilized rather than HVAC systems. Not only does this smart system alert building managers at the main environment dashboard but individual workers are notified right on their computer desktops. The system also will notify occupants if inclement weather is forecasted. When daytime temperatures rise above conformable levels, a compressor-less chilled beam air conditioning system takes over. This system doesn't use typical 90° pipes, but more efficient 130° pipes along with variable speed pumps to circulate some 50,000 gallons of water that is stored in two underground tanks. Additionally, the building can store up to 20,000 gallons of grey water captured from gutters for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing.

The Packard Foundation is a multi-billion dollar not-for-profit organization that funds many types of programs in three main categories; 1) conservation and science, 2) population and reproductive health and 3) family and community-building.  Grant awards are given to charities and organizations whose goals are designed to solve societal issues with the ingenuity, innovation and quick reaction times of the free market. The Foundation also provides significant long term support to iconic institutions like the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and the Fellowships for Science and Engineering.

The products from TEKA Illumination and B-K Lighting that were incorporated into this detailed energy plan included solid state BKSSL™ LEDs, compact fluorescents and ES16 sources. The total wattage consumed by the entire group of TEKA and B-K Lighting luminaries (numbering 91 in all) is approximately 1,980 watts. This represents on average just 21 watts consumed per fixture.

Backlighting provides an area of uniform illumination, oriented behind the object of interest, primarily for creating a part silhouette of instant contrast between dark and light.  It is most useful for edge detection, part location/orientation or presence/absence, hole detection and object gauging. Linear Backlights can also be deployed behind a moving web of material when used in conjunction with line scan cameras, when intensities are enough to freeze motion.
