LED verlichting is de laatste jaren enorm geëvolueerd. Daar waar het in 2012 nog in zijn beginstadium stond, is het vandaag niet meer weg te denken. Alle kinderziektes zijn ondertussen weggewerkt en het is een waardige vervanger geworden van de energieverslindende halogeen- en gloeilampen. Ook de kleurweergave index (of de zogenaamde CRI index) is sterk verbeterd. Er zijn bijna geen LED armaturen meer met een Ra van minder dan 80. Er zijn tegenwoordig ook veel inbouwspots en plafondspots die dimbaar zijn met de techniek “dim to warm”. Hierbij wordt niet enkel de lichtintensiteit van de spots verminderd maar ook de lichtkleur van warm wit (vaak 2700 Kelvin) tot heel warm wit (vaak 2200 Kelvin). Hieronder geven we alvast een overzicht van zaken waar u moet rekening houden bij de keuze van uw LED spots, meer bepaald inbouwspots, plafondspots en railspots.

Het is ondertussen algemeen geweten dat LED verlichting enorm energiebesparend is. Algemeen is het zo dat een LED spot ongeveer 1/7 verbruikt ten opzichte van een halogeen spot. Lux is de hoeveelheid licht die uit een lichtbron komt met 1 candela op 1m afstand. De lux waarde varieert volgens de ruimte. In een badkamer of keuken hebt u het meeste licht nodig.  In een keuken is dat bijvoorbeeld 500 lux. Wanneer u de luxwaarde vermenigvuldigt met het aantal m2 bekomt u het aantal lumen. Iedere plafondspot, railspot of inbouwspot heeft een lumen waarde. U kunt dus het aantal lumen delen door het aantal lumen per spot. Op die manier bekomt u het aantal spots dat u moet installeren.

Bij LED verlichting maken we een onderscheid tussen warm wit, nomaal wit en koud wit. Warm wit wordt in de meeste woningen gebruikt en de lichtkleur varieert van 2700 tot 3000 Kelvin. Normaal wit licht is daglicht en varieert van 4000 tot 4500 Kelvin. Dit wordt meer toegepast in kantoren. Koud wit licht varieert van 6000 tot 6500 Kelvin en wordt vaak gebruikt in magazijnen.
