All camera data was retrieved from http://geizhals.at. Note that sensor size and pixel pitch may not be fully accurate in all cases. As http://geizhals.at is a shopping site, duplicate entries of the same camera may exist although care was taken to filter those out. Currently, only cameras are displayed which are sold by at least one shop on http://geizhals.at.

I've done the tests, and it's definitely not a linear relationship. I have not been able to find a formula that would accurately reflect the dependence of FOV on the input value of camera zoom. Apparently it's a trigonometric dependence, but I can't figure out which one. If anyone knows how to help me - I will be very glad to any advice.

End of quote. Judging from the above, the FOV increases uniformly as the input value increases. Moreover, increasing the incoming value actually increases the zoom, i.e. decreases the FOV.
The camera's numeric FOV input will take values from 0-1 (anything higher or lower has no additional effect) and has a zoom range of 0.29x up to 28x zoom.
I'm building a kind of thermal imager that overlays a semi-transparent image of the outline of spotted machinery on the camera image. It detects it with radar and refines the contour with lidar. I've encountered a problem that in order to output the information you need to know the exact current angle of view of the camera. What formula can I use to calculate it? I've been puzzling over it all day. I quote the wikipedia page:

0 is the low-zoom wide field of view, with the camera seeing a 135-degree FOV (0.29x zoom). 1 is the high-zoom narrow field of view, with the camera seeing an approximately 1.43 degree FOV (0.025 radian FOV - 28x zoom). The camera's FOV setting is structured so that the number of degrees in its FOV increases evenly as the input value increases, so adding 0.5 to a low input value will add (135-1.43)*0.5 degrees to the FOV.
