Each fire door should have a metal tag on the door and on the door frame identifying the rating of the doorset. A rating of - / - / - SM is a smoke control door, but the presence of any numbers in the places of the dashes in the rating (eg - / 30 / 30 / SM) means the door is a fire door. These are required under Building Code Document F8/AS1 to be affixed to a fire door which forms part of a fire wall within a building. The label is required to be placed on each side of each door leaf at or above the door handle (a double door requires 4 labels).   Fire doors are required to close and latch shut and are labelled as such to prevent occupants from wedging a fire door open or obstructing an automatic door from closing correctly.
